Malmesbury & St Paul Without Residents Association

The Association works to enhance the lives of the residents by keeping an eye on new building and planning applications, checking the states of streets, car parking, traffic, etc., and liaising with local authorities and agencies on matters of concern to members.

News Sheet Issue 25 - February 2010

1. Council Tax - The Precept for Malmesbury for 2010/11 has been fixed at just under 5% increase. This is added to the Wilts Council, Fire and Police budgets to fix your tax. In spite of cost increases and Town Hall income not being up to expectations, the increase has been kept down by use of reserves. The refurbishment contract for the Town Hall has now been settled. The Precept for St Pauls Malmesbury Without Parish Council shows an increase of just 2%.

2. Malmesbury Lunch Club - Members, 60 years old or over, meet at 1200 on WEDNESDAYS in the Oxford Room, Town Hall for a chat and a £3 lunch. Contact Helen on 840080.

3. Pot Holes caused by recent frosts have been temporarily filled by an emergency team. Report any still to be filled to 0800 232323.

4. Police - The station is now closed after a period of opening on Thursday afternoons, since this opportunity to consult was not used. The Police are anxious to talk to community groups - contact 0845 408 7000.

5. Physically Handicapped Club - meets on MONDAYS at 1pm-3pm at Glovers Court. Social activities, cup of tea and outings. Transport can be arranged - contact Angeline on 825037.

6. Burton Hill House - This estate has now been sold for development into luxury apartments. The house and trees are protected.

7. Burnham House - A feasibility study has been set up to plan the conversion to ‘extra care’ housing.

8. Waste Collection - Wilts Council are consulting until 30th March on three options to synchronise the procedures throughout the county. See www.wiltsglosstandard.co.uk.

9. Employment - New opportunities will follow the move of Lufthansa Technical Base to Cotswold Airport (Kemble).

10. Old Bikes - Local charity Jole Rider sent 2,000 refurbished bikes to Africa in 2009. Also sending school furniture and books. To donate or help at Hullavington contact 826858 or www.jolerider.org.

11. The Hawthorns, Old Alexander Road - The Association has supported local residents in their attempt to prevent the overdevelopment and damage to trees on this site.
