MEMBERS of a Wiltshire community theatre group are to play some of BBC TV's most popular characters this month.

They will be putting on stage some of the best episodes of the BBC's classic comedy TV series Dad's Army.

The plays feature the Home Guard of Walmington-on-Sea who battle daily against the Germans and local ARP Chief Warden Hodges.

The performances are being produced under the Project Play banner, a Chippenham community asset which is now in its third year following well-received productions of The Vicar of Dibley and ‘Allo ‘Allo!

Geoff Bridgman, who plays Hodges, said: "We will be on stage at the Neeld Hall with Dad's Army, which includes Deadley Attachment, Mum's Army and Godiva Affair, and the Floral Dance.

"We are at last putting this on after more than 18 months of the Covid-19 pandemic. It will be good and lots of fun."

On Saturday, October 9 members of the cast will be out in force in Chippenham town centre wearing costumes to promote the performances.

The performances are on from Thursday to Saturday, October 14-16 at 7.30pm and on Sunday, October 17 at 2.30pm at the Neeld Community & Arts Centre in Chippenham. Tickets are £15 each.

The original BBC comedy TV series, written by David Croft and Jimmy Perry, was hugely successful and ran for many seasons.

It starred Arthur Lowe as Captain Mainwaring, John Le Mesurier as Sergeant Wilson, Clive Dunn as Lance Corporal Jones, John Laurie as Private Frazier, James Beck as Private Walker, Arnold Ridley as Private Godfrey, Ian Lavender as Private Pike, and Bill Pertwee as Chief Warden Hodges.
